Can a debt collector demand full payment even though you try to set up a payment plan?

Yes. Once your account goes into default, a creditor or debt collection agency can demand any amount they wish up to full payment of the debt.

You can propose to pay the debt in partial payments but make sure the payment schedule you request is one you can truly afford.

It should also be an amount that would pay the debt in a reasonable amount of time. Offering to pay RM10 a month on a RM10,000 debt probably would not be accepted by a creditor or debt collection agency.
