What is entry of appearance?

In the High Court, after the defendant has been served with the summons, he is given 8 days to enter his appearance if he is within the local jurisdiction of the court, or else 12 days if outside the local jurisdiction.

In the Subordinate Courts, a defendant is given fourteen days to enter his appearance after he has been served with a summons.

In the event that no appearance is entered by the time fixed by the court, then a judgment in default of appearance can be entered against the defendant.
