How to prevent cyber attacks by hackers?

Cyber attacks are virtually impossible to predict because the attacker strikes (attack, crack and hack) when he is ready. The attacks increase with time because our information is becoming more distributed and hence more vulnerable. The technology for mounting an attack are becoming more sophisticated and more widely available.

We can prepare to minimise cyber attacks if we can do some of the following activities:

1.   Often assess information security requirements and apply appropriate solutions to protect your systems and networks that are supporting the critical information;

2.   Plan and implement immediate measures for protecting your vulnerable information and systems now. Know where people can come in and with what protocols;

3.   Avoid and eliminate network and server holes that let people come in without being seen;

4.   Keep your virus protection scanner always up-to-date and working on all protocols on both the servers and on the desktops;

5.   Make contingency plans for detecting and reacting to information attacks during cyber attacks. Make sure that the network and system administrators fully understand their role and responsibilities during this timeframe;

6.   Educate all your employees on the possibilities and consequences of cyber attacks and the actions planned to thwart those attacks.
